In the north-west of Croatia, on the Slovenian border, lies the 333 square kilometer mountain range of the Žumberak and Samobor mountains, declared to be park of nature in 1999.
Rugged climbing walls become a delicate hilly landscape the further you get to the southwest, which in turn ends in the Panonic Plain. The rivers Sava, Krka and Kupa donate plenty of water to allow various rare and well-known plants to thrive in lush green in the area below the tree line.
Above the fertile soils, in the windy heights of the Zumberak mountain ridge, the Sveta Gera summit defies the weather with its 1178m. The highest points of the Samobor Mountains are called Japetic and Plesivica and also measure a proud 971 and 780 meters. If you want to climb all heights, you should not only take a few days, but above all train well. Because as beautiful and “homely film-like” the mountain walls look like, the sometimes unprepared ascents can be tricky. But if you take it easy and can understand not only the summit cross but also the way to the destination, you will have a great time!
