Omiš is small city located south of Split and it is great location if you want peaceful holidays while enjoying sun and natural beauties. City of Omiš has around 15 000 people so it is not overpopulated witch gives you some kind of peaceful atmosphere.

Omiš was populated around 7th century and it was called “Oneum” or “Onaeum” and it is located right on confluence of river Cetina (river that is giving drinking water to most of Dalmatia region).

In middle age Omiš was famous for it’s pirates who attacked and robbed other ships (specially Pope’s ships) and they were fear of all sails man! Old town Omiš is famous for its city center witch is very beautiful, but also it has some forts like: fort Mirabela, fort Fortica (Starigrad) and church of st. Mihovil.

Recreation

If you are more adventure person you might find rock climbing and kayaking exciting.

Kayaking is around 30 minutes from Omiš (all agencies start kayaking from Omiš – bus transfer). Kayaking is taking part on river Cetina witch is on most parts really wild river (don’t judge river for it’s confluence).

Rafting on the river Cetina lasts for about 3,4 hours on the 10 km long route which ends in a restaurant called Radmanove Mlinice. All you need is swimsuit, a pair of shoes suitable for water. You can bring your camera with you too. It is placed in a small waterproof barrel inside the boat. Everything else, equipment (paddle, helmet, buoyancy aid) you will be given before big adventure begins and also quick tutorial for basic rafting skills.

Cetina is a pool drop river and on the scale of 1-6 it’s classified as a 2-3, which means that the rapid is easy and medium. You will see nature in it’s best, beautiful lakes, vegetation cliffs, waterfalls, cave..
